  Milwaukee
I joined the annual sailing trip to Milwaukee this year. For many years now Chip and his buddies have been sailing from Muskegon to Milwaukee for a weekend of sailing, drinking, and companionship (not in the whore type way).

We left on Thursday night so that we could get there earlier. With a 9pm departure from Great Lakes Marina we were on our way. Sadly, once we got on the big lake I picked up a touch of seasickness. It wasn't really enough to make me lose the beers that I had already consumed, but it was enough to keep me from wanting any more. Around 1am I decided to turn in and try and get some sleep. We were supposed to take shifts and the wheel, but no one got me up and I didn't wake until nearly 6:30.

We finally got into McKinley Marina in Milwaukee at 11am. Considering that we had to use the engine for about a third of the trip we made pretty good time.

We rested for the rest of the afternoon before heading out. We started with a 1/2 liter and the Old German Beer Hall and then it was on to Lakefront Brewery. We continued with a couple of pints before beginning the tour. It was totally a novice tour but we got a couple of pints out of the deal and we got $5 off our fish fry dinner. Then it was on to Water Street Brewery. I thought they had a good Weisse, but it didn't work out all that well for the rest of the guys.

Sadly, then we went into Rosie's. This was just a regular bar, but some of the others were quite taken with a few of the waitresses. We split up and some of us headed out to a really nice bar called Roman's. It was pretty much an old house that had a terrific selection of beers and a wonderful porch for handing out and drinking.

After all of that we had a really low key Saturday morning. We were joined by a couple of girls in the early afternoon and then headed out for a quite sail. This turned out to be a mistake and the water was a bit rough and many ended up a bit green. After that we headed out for dinner. While many of us had willing hearts the bodies were not. Only Frank was able to turn on the drinking machine again.

When it came time to leave on Sunday we heard on the marine radio that they were seeing 2-4 foot waves. Another guys and I decided to take the Lake Express back to save time and hopefully avoid some more seasickness. We got back to Muskegon at 4:30pm. (Chip and the guys got back at 11pm - reports are the the water was quite rough for the 1st half but then much better for the rest.)

It was a terrific weekend. I am totally infatuated with Milwaukee. It was such a lovely city and their embrace of their German heritage is fantastic. Visit if you can.
